- Episode 4-Secure Daughters-Confident Sons
Someone has said that, “we spend the first few years of a child’s life teaching them how to walk and talk. Then we spend the next few years trying to get them to–sit down and be quiet!” If you’re bringing up boys at the moment—you may have noticed that they tend to be a bit more “active” than girls. At times, even downright destructive!
In this episode, we won’t give you advice on how to get them to “sit down and be quiet”… but rather, how to get them to be themselves; but channel all of that energy and personality to invite our kids into adulthood!Episode 3-Secure Daughters-Confident Sons
It’s probably safe to say that there’s loads of fellas who struggle with “finding their feet.” They come up with all sorts of examples to follow, and ways to cope. Most would struggle quietly with their doubts and fears. Others overcompensate and do outrageous things to prove that “they’re a man.” Girls too, have their own set of struggles on the way to genuine womanhood.
In episode 3, our own Heather Walsh, Stephen Cardy, and Ger Shanahan welcome Marie Doherty to our “round-table discussion.” Marie is an Early Childhood Specialist with “Early Childhood Ireland.” The team discuss what we as parents and caregivers can do—to help our boys and girls–become confident and secure men and women.Episode 2-Secure Daughters-Confident Sons
Boys and girls tend to see the world differently; but in computer terms: is that a “software” issue; or a “hardware” issue? In other words, do boys think differently because of because of external programming from society? Or is it “hard-wired”?
While men and women are equal—they’re definitely not the same! The sooner we recognise that, the sooner we can begin helping our girls and boys to grow up into secure and confident women and men.Episode 1-Secure Daughters-Confident Sons
What would you say that young people in Ireland today are lacking? Someone who wasn’t “clued in” to the culture might say, “It doesn’t look like they’re missing anything! They have more education, more material possessions, more rights than ever before.”
But you know, just below the surface, there are a few key qualities that seem to be in increasingly short supply. Despite so much going for them: many young women are insecure—while many young men have a severe lack of confidence. Listen to what the research reveals on Episode 1 of “Secure Daughters-Confident Sons”!
